Highlights From 2002

In February, 2002 I was invited to perform on Public Radio. I spent a great hour with my two girlfriends Kacey Jones and Teresa taping "The Songwriter Series"on Nashville's WPLN. Hopefully the series will be syindicated soon. Sign my guest book, and next time you'll get an email when I'm doing a web cast or syndicated radio show.

The biggest news of last winter was that I was on the cover of a magazine! Country Music Round Up, is the #1 Country Music Newspaper in Britain. It comes out every month, and I was the cover photo for December 2001. It was a great honor, and in addition, reviewer Richard Kirk has included my last CD "Somewhere Else To Go" in his top dozen albums of 2001!

The paper published a long interview I gave Richard when I was performing at the 12 Bar Club in London last summer. It also printed the story I wrote about my favorite Christmas memory. It's called "A Christmas I'll Never Forget". If you'ld like to read it click on the title.

The other big news of 2002 is my new home! In late August I rolled back into Nashville from the road, and went to visit a friend on the west side of town. Two doors down was a house for sale... right on the Cumberland River at Bells Bend. I had no plans at all to buy another house, but it was love at first sight. Below is a photo of my backyard.

The Cumberland originates in the Appalachian Mountains and empties into the Ohio River, then into the Mississippi. The house is a split level, and I have a large music studio downstairs with a fireplace and a view of the river. The land across the river is in a flood plane, so no one will ever build on it. It is strictly farm land. The river is always changing. Some mornings it is so glassy you can see the trees on the opposite bank reflected in the surface of the water. Other times when the wind picks up there are white caps on it. The current runs towards the west, but the wind blows towards the east, so sometimes it seems to flow in one direction and other times the other way. The first night I was here the fog rolled in. I stepped out onto my balcony and the air was so still that from the other side of the river I could hear cattle mooing, even though I'm only fifteen minutes from downtown Nashville.

PERFORMING WITH
SHE-Daisey & KIM RICHEY AT THE POLK THEATER
IN THE TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

It was Friday the 13th in July, but it wasn't unluky for me. I've been wanting to sing at TPAC since the first time I went there. It is the nicest venue in Nashville, and a thrill to perform in. The acoustics are so wonderful that you really don't need a mic. We all gathered to do a benefit for a woman named Ruth Mitchell who has been very supportive of the arts. How supportive? Well to give you an idea, after the concert I went up to meet her. She was too weak to walk, so she was in a wheel chair. She had difficulty talking because of the extensive surgery and chemotherapy she has undergone to fight the cancer. After I introduced myself, she looked up at me and said "we need to move forward on your career." I don't think I will ever forget her.
