A SHORT BIO:

A former music row staff songwriter, and an entertainer who has performed at over 150 fairs and festivals, Claudia Nygaard has not only learned how to write a song, she knows how to deliver it. She is a born storyteller with a quick wit and a fearless emotional availability, and her affable connection with an audience has led reviewers to describe her as “Will Rogers without the Rope”. In addition to festivals, it has made her a popular performer at house concerts across the country, (see Tour Schedule for current and past performances) and earned her the coveted "Emerging Artist" award at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.

Nygaard is a strong guitarist with an equally powerful voice that D.J. Rich Warren of Chicago has compared to "amber honey", and Bob Oerman of Music Row Magazine praised for its "power and resonance".

A winner of numerous songwriting awards including the Kerrville Folk Festival “New Folk” Songwriting Competition, Claudia crafts songs with vivid imagery, and an authentic point of view.

"Let The Storm Roll In", Claudia's long awaited new CD, features twelve self-penned songs beautifully showcased through the talents of musicians that include Colin Linden of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Grammy winners Andy Reiss and Jeff Taylor of the Time Jumpers, multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplan of Kane, Welch, and Kaplan, plus Telecaster genius Redd Volkaert, and frequent Prairie Home Companion steel guru Cindy Cashdollar. It also includes the wonderful duet "I Want To Touch You" with East Coast Canadian Entertainer of the year Lennie Gallant. The Rhythm section is made up of Johnny Cash sideman Dave Roe on upright bass, and Rick Lonow on percussion. "Let The Storm Roll In" ships to radio 6/1/11.

WHAT THE VENUES HAVE SAID ABOUT CLAUDIA:

“Claudia has a talent for finding in a simple phrase the most excellent songs, where anyone else might hear nothing. I am continually amazed by the emotions she can evoke; heart wrenching I cry every time, to a social statement which could be a call to action or at least some inner searching, to sexy and funny that leaves everyone in the room delightfully joyfully heated. She is a pleasure to work with and gives her best every time. Always delighted to have her at Kerrville!”   Dalis Allen, Producer of the Kerrville Folk Festival

“Claudia Nygaard is down to earth, fun, and a little bit mischievous… just like her music.”   Cheryl Kagan, Folk ‘N Great Music (Rockville, MD)

"I have been hosting concerts for 40 years and house concerts for the last twelve.  I would have to say that Claudia Nygaard's house concert was one of the most personal and engaging of the audience that I have ever seen.  She had them from the get-go to the encore. Her strength is in her conviction to the empathy her songs convey, and it shows."
Paul Barker, Barker House Concerts, Austin, TX

"Claudia was a smash hit with our audience.  Her songs, her stories, her charming wit, and her engaging personality combined to provide all of us with a wonderful evening of entertainment. We are definitely looking forward to her return to our stage in the not-too-distant future."
Kelson Slayman "Folk at the Cannery", Dataw Island, SC
